Conveyor Toasters come in many varieties. Conveyor Toasters have different production capacities, types of heat (Quartz or Metal Sheathed Elements), different conveyor belt widths, product opening heights, ability to toast one or both sides and voltage requirements. What is the difference between Quartz Heaters and Metal Sheathed Elements? Quartz Heaters have minimal pre-heat time and are typically instant heat with less operating expense. The down-side of the Quartz heater is when one breaks the tube. Metal Sheathed Elements are more durable but take longer to heat and have more operational costs. Conveyor Toasters with Quartz Heaters are Belleco and Star Holman and Metal Sheathed Elements are offered by APW and Hatco. When considering a conveyor toaster’s capacity, keep in mind that capacities are posted at peak efficient levels and most operations will be at 70% of those levels. As always, your bread product will drive the purchase of the right conveyor toaster, but always keep in mind the potential for change.
